The Lo Shu square, a mystical three-by-three arrangement of numbers, is the foundation of the Flying Star system. Each number, or star, represents a quality of Qi, linked to one of the Five Elements and to particular life themes such as health, relationships, or prosperity. These stars move in cycles of time, gaining or losing strength as the twenty-year periods shift. We have now entered Period 9 (2024–2043), when the Fire Star 9 takes center stage, reshaping how the other stars express their influence.
Below are the Nine Stars with their qualities, followed by their relative strength and role in Period 9:
- Star 1 (Water): The Star of Wisdom, linked to knowledge, communication, and career. In Period 9: Star 1 is considered prosperous, gaining strength as a future wealth star. It supports intellectual pursuits, writing, teaching, and careers in communication or technology.
- Star 2 (Earth): Traditionally the Star of Illness, associated with obstacles and health issues. In Period 9: Star 2 becomes a timely star, no longer purely negative. It can bring strong Earth energy that supports property, caregiving, and stability, but still needs to be handled carefully in bedrooms or health-related areas.
- Star 3 (Wood): The Star of Quarrels, linked to conflict, disputes, and irritability. In Period 9: Star 3 is generally inauspicious. Its aggressive qualities are emphasized, and it often needs Fire cures (red colors, light) to soften its edge. Left unchecked, it can bring legal trouble or misunderstandings.
- Star 4 (Wood): The Star of Romance and Study, governing love, creativity, and academic success. In Period 9: Star 4 becomes a timely star, more supportive than before. It is especially auspicious for students, artists, and those seeking relationships or inspiration.
- Star 5 (Earth): The Misfortune Star, associated with accidents, disasters, and setbacks. In Period 9: Star 5 remains very inauspicious and must be kept calm and quiet. It should not be activated with noise, movement, or renovation, and is best controlled with strong Metal cures.
- Star 6 (Metal): The Star of Authority and Mentorship, linked to leadership and career advancement. In Period 9: Star 6 is declining in strength. While it still brings supportive mentors and opportunities, it is less influential than in earlier periods, and can sometimes turn rigid or overbearing.
- Star 7 (Metal): Once the prosperity star in Period 7, it now carries decline and potential for theft, betrayal, and gossip. In Period 9: Star 7 is highly inauspicious. Its destructive potential is emphasized, requiring Water cures or avoidance of activation.
- Star 8 (Earth): The Prosperity Star of Period 8 (2004–2023), associated with wealth and stability. In Period 9: Star 8 is now a past prosperity star. It still holds residual strength, especially in the early years of Period 9, but its influence gradually wanes. It remains auspicious when activated properly, but not as dominant as before.
- Star 9 (Fire): The Star of Future Prosperity, governing fame, recognition, and joy. In Period 9: Star 9 is the current prosperity star, at the height of its influence. It favors industries linked to light, visibility, technology, media, and leadership. Properly activated, it brings growth, enthusiasm, and new opportunities.
In summary, during Period 9 the Fire element dominates, bringing recognition, visibility, and innovation to the forefront. Stars 1, 4, and 9 are auspicious; Star 2 becomes more constructive than before; Stars 3, 5, and 7 are challenging; and Stars 6 and 8, though once powerful, are gradually receding. Understanding this shifting hierarchy allows us to focus remedies and enhancements where they matter most in this new cycle.
